

PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY
The Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina General Assembly are committed to improving the quality of personal financial literacy education, to advancing public knowledge, and to providing professional development. The purpose of the Personal Financial Literacy Web site is to:
- Advance teacher knowledge and understanding of personal finances
- Increase the number of high school students who are financially literate
- Enhance public awareness and parent knowledge of personal finances
Building on current personal financial literacy initiatives this Web site provides strategies that address student, teacher and parent needs, build stakeholder involvement and support policies approved by the State Board of Education.
Free Workshop for Civics & Economics teachers:
This one-day session will feature training from DPI Social Studies consultants on the implications of the new PFL standards in C & E, best practices from the 2010 Economics Educator of the Year, and resources from the NC Council on Economic Education and the Federal Reserve Bank. Teaching Financial Literacy: Free Online Course
This 10-hour online course is designed to help you get started teaching your students about
personal finance. Each participant will receive a copy of the new book, What Personal Finance Is
About. The course is offered via the newly-updated Blackboard Coursesites, and is the result of a
partnership between the North Carolina Council on Economic Education and the North Carolina

Financial Literacy Summit II
On June 22, North Carolina A&T State University will host a Financial Literacy Summit for
teachers. This free event is sponsored by NC DPI and the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal
